Leaders are a key part of our small groups. In fact, without them, we would not be able to have small groups. Leaders are what the name suggests; they lead the group. They facilitate discussion and set the schedule. They also help develop and disciple people into a deeper relationship with God.
A Leader can lead a group at their own home, or they can be a leader in a host home. So if you would like to lead a small group but you're worried that you may not have enough space to conduct one, that is not a problem, we can find a host home with enough space to conduct your group.
What does leading look like?
To some degree you coach people into a deeper relationship with God. And we know what you are thinking, "I don't know if I know the Bible well enough to lead a group." We understand that concern. To help with this, we have decided to implement a small group based around the sermon series the church is in. With this being the reality, you will be provided with discussion questions based off of the passage of scripture used in that sermon. Not only does it help you know what you are teaching, but it also helps busy people not have to come up with something on their own. The other thing it helps the group do is dive deeper into the text and discuss the topic further.
What is the time commitment?
We would love for the commitment to be for the Small Group year, which is the middle of September - May, but we also understand that you may only be able to do a season. We break the small group year into three season, Fall, Winter, and Spring.
Fall Season goes from September- November (Right Before Thanksgiving), we take the whole month of December off due to the hectic pace of the Holiday Season.
Winter Season goes from after New Years in January -the end March.
Spring Season goes from April to May ( We typically skip the week of Easter.)
Each group can decide to do their group every week, or every other week. This will either give you roughly 10 week each season or 5 weeks depending on how often you decide to meet.
As for time, we normally tell people to plan on being there for about an hour in a half, especially for those with child care. However, if you would like to stay longer and the host and leader are okay with that, go for it! We just ask that you be respectful of other peoples space and time.
What about kids?
Not every group will have kids in them. We actually have groups that will provide child care and those that will not. If your is a group with child care, we will ask the group to chip in to help pay for the childcare. We believe a good rate is for the person providing child care to at least make $15 an hour.
